Prince George Veterinary Hospital

We are proud to announce the latest technology added to our hospital; a digital dental x-ray machine.

The suite is complete with our new dental x-ray apparatus.

This machine is similar to that which is used by human dentists.  A small plate is placed in the pet's mouth when it is anaesthetized and a movaeable x-ray head is positioned on the outside of the face. The smaller size and better manoeuverability of the new machine provides much more accurate and detailed images than that those produced by a regular x-ray machine that is used to take images of larger areas of the body.

This machine allows us to look at the structures below the gum line. We are better able to diagnose painful tooth root abscesses (more commonly seen in dogs) and cavity type sores (more commonly seen in cats).  We are also able to check for teeth that did not erupt normally and take x-rays of various lumps in the mouth.

Digital x-ray machines are the latest technology and they provide a much clearer picture than traditional film x-rays.  They are also more environmentally friendly as they do not use harsh chemicals.   Another advantage of digital x-rays is our ability to easily send these images to a specialist if required.
